| Formerly the St Georges Hotel,
Centre Island acquired the Holiday Inn Liverpool City Centre from
Regal Hotels in January 2000. The property, operated in the lower
three star market, had been neglected since the seventies and
suffered poor occupancy and room rates. It appeared, on initial
inspection, to be a poor investment. An excellent city centre
location, however, coupled with a strong, loyal banqueting and
wedding market convinced Centre Island that the hotel had potential.
Following an intensive ten-month building programme, including
a full strip-out and re-configuration of all bedrooms and public
areas, the hotel re-opened in November 2000. It now sets the standard
by which other mid-market properties in Liverpool are judged,
and has attained numerous awards including InterContinental Hotels
Group Best Newcomer 2001. Since its re-launch as a Holiday Inn,
under the management of Centre Island, turnover and profits have
increased by 400%. |
